Client

History.com is a subsidiary of A&E Television Networks (AETN) a joint venture of The Hearst Corporation, Disney-ABC Television Group and NBC Universal. AETN is an award-winning, international media company offering consumers a diverse communications environment ranging from television programming, to home videos/DVDs and music CDs, to Web sites, as well as supporting nationwide educational initiatives.

Situation or Problem

A&E Television Networks needed help creating, developing and hosting an online trivia game to promote an epic television mini-series called: America the Story of Us on the History Channel. They did not have game development resources or expertise in-house.

What We Did

Nine Summer created a multi-platform (desktop and mobile) trivia game featuring a proprietary scoring algorithm with robust integration into the popular social networks. The game was designed for integration with History.com and rapidly prototyped and built using Ruby on Rails and other open source technology. The initial phase of software was launched by the Nine Summer team in approximately 90 days using an agile software development process.

America The Story of Us has been a blockbuster success for the A&E Television Networks and the traffic driven to the The Ultimate Trivia Quiz has exceeded projections by hundreds of percent. The game performs well under heavy load and the Nine Summer team built and manages the web hosting operations.
